On Friday, September 25, 2009, Slovenian embassy in Washington held a grand opening of the exhibition of Bogdan Grom, a Slovenian-Italian artist, who lives and works in the US since 1957. The exhibition encompasses selected works from 1947 until 2008, titled From Trieste Karts to the Canyons of the American South-West. The exhibition can be visited at the Slovenian embassy gallery hall until 31 January.

Grom and his work were also presented in September at an artist festival in New York’s Governors Island with a documentary by Carole Ryavec, “50 years of American Art – Bogdan Grom”. Grom’s sculpture “Sentinel” (Stražar) is also a part of the permanent collection at the Slovenian Embassy in Washington, D.C, which Grom donated at the opening of the Slovenian new chancery in 2007. The sculpture is now presented at the entrance to the Embassy in Washington.

Grom, who has celebrated his 91st birthday this August, was pleased with the opening and the attendance. Ambassador Roman Kirn portrayed Grom as one of the best Slovenian artists, although the home public, due to his living in the USA, is only now beginning to know his works.

“His opus is really huge and diverse. The exhibition leads us from the times he still lived in the Karst region all the way to New Mexico. Before he moved, Grom left his touch in Europe and now we can say he left it in America too,” said Kirn.
