ST VITUS PARISH SUMMER PICNIC JULY 18, 2010 SLOVENSKA PRISTAVA

St. Vitus Parish, established in Aug. 1893 as the first American Slovenian Roman Catholic parish in the state of Ohio and Diocese of Cleveland, will have its annual parish picnic on JULY 18, 2010 (SUNDAY) at Slovenska Pristava, a recreational facility located in Harpersfield , Ohio . There is no admission or parking charge on July 18.
The picnic will officially begin with a Mass at 12:00 (Noon) in the main pavilion. The principal celebrant will be Father Joseph Boznar, pastor, St. Vitus. Fr. Boznar is observing his 40th Year of Ordination to The Priesthood and has been pastor at St Vitus since 1979. A dinner will immediately follow the Mass. An expertly prepared pork chops and/or chicken dinner with all the trimmings will be provided. The melodic sounds of the Bobby Kravos Orchestra will perform for your listening and dancing pleasure in the afternoon. After the dinner the kitchen will be open until 8PM serving side food dishes such as hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, etc., as well as having refreshments available throughout the entire afternoon. An open pit will have a specialty dish, Slovenian style “civapcici,” after the dinner. Other activities will include:

Special raffle.
Open swimming (nominal fee for non-members of Slovenska Pristava) in the new swimming pool at Pristava.
Children’s Interactive games.
Chinese craft raffle.
Children’s games.

The Committee is planning to have flamenco and or tango dancers as well as a flamenco guitarist as part of the entertainment in the afternoon. The net proceeds from the parish picnic will be used for capital improvements around the parish. For example, the parish completed an entire restoration and repair of the 78 year-old church Holtkamp organ, costing more than $300,000. Directions to Slovenska Pristava are: Take I-90 east to the Geneva Exit (Route #534). Take Rte 534 south to South River Road , approximately two miles. Turn right on South River Road. Take South River Rd. approximately one mile to Brandt Road . Turn right at Brandt Rd. Slovensa Pristava is about ½ mile down. For additional information call the parish house at (216) 361-1444.
