Borough of SNPJ, Pennsylvania

This weekend, July 11-13, the Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ, for short) will host its 33rd annual Slovenefest at the SNPJ Recreation Center in the Borough of SNPJ, Lawrence County, Pa. SNPJ’s Slovenefest, which is the largest Slovenian cultural festival in North America, features more than 20 Slovenian polka bands and button box accordion clubs at five indoor/outdoor venues and is attended by thousands of people every year. The non-stop entertainment runs from noon until midnight each day.

Slovenefest attendees will be able to sample the great foods and beverages of Slovenia while enjoying the music. Slovenian sausage, barbecued lamb and pork, and other favorite festival foods will be available, accompanied by Slovenian beer and wines as well as a variety of other beverages.

Festival guests will also be able to explore the culture of Slovenia through an extensive display of folk attire, crafts and household items in the SNPJ Slovenian Heritage Center museum. Families and children alike will appreciate swimming in the Olympic-size pool, fishing in the SNPJ Recreation Center lake, playing miniature golf, riding the trackless train, romping in inflatable jumps, playing on the playground equipment, and participating in organized activities. A fireworks display is scheduled Saturday night, weather permitting. These family activities, as well as admission to the swimming pool and the Slovenian Heritage Center, are included with Slovenefest admission.
